Parishioners are being asked for their views on what directions our parish should consider in the light of new challenges: increasing costs to run the parish, earthquake strengthening and maintenance of the church building, and a shortage of priests. Currently the parish administration costs operate at a deficit which is being met out of reasonable cash reserves. Some options have been floated for parish discussion, including selling the presbytery and from the proceeds upgrade the church building to be a full parish centre, and carrying out all remedial work on the church building. It must be emphasised this project is at a discussion level and there has been no proper cost analysis done on upgrading the church, and building additions, nor on marketing the presbytery building and land. The Parish Councils wish to obtain the views of parishioners on the three options mooted, including any new ideas parishioners might have that could be considered. To that end a webpage with the slides and speech notes presented after Sunday Mass can be read by clicking here. And there is also a webpage that parishioners can indicate their preference on the options proposed so far, and a webform where they can present their alternative views or notes in addition to the options. Please click here. The webforms go direct to the parish office and Fr. Seph. We will present feedback after about a month or so here on this website.
Many thanks to all those who attended the meeting on Sunday. It was great to have such a cross section of our community discussing the parish and its future. All the feedback and responses will be collated and available on the parish website. The Finance Committee has undertaken to provide monthly expense and income figures in Westlink so up to date information regarding the parish financial situation can be monitored. Over the January break I invite you to think about what it means to you to be part of St Teresa’s, Karori, and how you can contribute to the community. I will be looking to develop this vital work with you as we begin the New Year. Warmly, Fr Seph
Xmas greeting from Archbishop John Dew
